Takoma Park Triangle and MoCo Politics – Considerations Before You Vote
My View From Inside The Turret
Yesterday, the Maryland Reporter.Com provided a link to a Bethesda Beat Article written by Louis Peck … Titled: Q&A with David Blair, Montgomery County executive candidate. Before we get into this any further, let’s be clear – Montgomery County politics is Democrat politics. If you believe anything else … well, you probably also believe in Unicorns. If you are a “Unicorn denier,” then you are also aware that despite the polite “nonpartisan” patina of Lou Peck, he is also a “Unicorn denier.”
So, it was with great interest that I read the Q&A with David Blair. As an Independent voter in Montgomery Country, I wanted to see if Lou would give David Blair a fair shake – after all, I think the County Administration under the Elrich regime has been a total disaster since its beginning in 2018.
My own expectation, given how close the race was the last time and given the performance of Mr. Elrich over the last four years, is that Montgomery County just might be ready for the kind of leadership that a “businessman” could bring to the forum. The other “wannabes” who have been serving on the County Council don’t bring much to the party – just more “Takoma Park” progressivism, none of which has served the constituents of this county well regardless of political position. The county record when measured against a number of matrices shows an abysmal record of achievement – hence, the conclusion that it is time for a change and a businessman may hold the key.
But, not to worry – Lou did not let us down. In a world where journalists and reporters “count cue” by the number of scalps they collect, Lou went “scalp hunting” and found one --- David Blair. Some will ask “why would you say that … the interview looked fair and balanced” … and, in the main, I would agree. But Lou just could not help himself. About three quarters of the way through the interview, Lou asked this question: Another part of your background that has sometimes stirred controversy is that you were Republican until changing your party registration about two decades ago. What factors went into your decision to leave the Republican Party and become a Democrat?
Did you get it? Did you hear it? The Dog Whistle: Another part of your background that has sometimes stirred controversy is that you were Republican … The question goes on to note that Blair changed his party affiliation some 20 years ago … It did not happen yesterday or last month it was 20 years ago The question was irrelevant to his policy positions of 2022. But there you have it --- a loud offensive DOG WHISTLE: Don’t vote for this guy, he was ONCE a REPUBLICAN.
The article is published … the dog whistle alert has been given and Lou might just be able to claim another political scalp. He has promised more interviews with more of the candidates seeking the County Executive position. Let’s see if he is “truthful” about the lack of achievements and poor financial condition of the county when he interviews Elrich, Riemer and Hucker; all of whom reflect the progressive policies of the Takoma Park Triangle!
Voters: when you are reading the interviews and studying candidates, evaluate the achievements and capabilities of each to identify … for yourself … those that are good for the future of MoCo … then vote.
Great article. Thank you.
