As we know, when Title 42 expired at midnight on May 12, 2023, it was anticipated that there would be a rush to the border like we had never seen before in this country. The Biden Administration had made it clear that this was their intent. Their intent is to flood the country with people from around the world with the hope and expectation that these people will thank Joe Biden for allowing them in. And as payback, they will vote the Democrats into power for the next three generations.
But … what if there was a way to curb the illegals’ passion for entering the United States illegally? “How?” … you ask. We see them coming across and the Border Patrol just herds them on to busses to be processed and released into the country. We have also seen that most of those coming across are single men … many of them young … in their late teens and early 20’s.
There are some families among the masses consisting of young men and women and these families sometimes have children with them … if these children really are their children. These families will have to be dealt with separately and not as part of this proposal.
Here is a proposal for consideration. We see what we see at the border. And we know that the United States is experiencing an increasing national security risk when it comes to China and Russia. And we know that, for whatever reason, we are not able to recruit enough citizens into our armed forces.
So, try this on for size … The Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) loads the men who all appear to be of military age on to the same busses and drives them to the US Army’s Fort Bliss … just a short distance from El Paso … and here is where the process begins.
Having gone through the ranks of the Army and experienced the efficiency with which we move soldiers and equipment to combat zones, I propose that, with the same efficiency, we identify current service members who are fluent in Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, or whatever other language we encounter among the men flooding our border. The Army trains linguists for just such a purpose as we have here … and I propose that we send them, on a temporary duty basis (TDY), to Ft. Bliss. These current, specialized service members will establish what will be designated companies and battalions of the men who have crossed the border illegally.
The companies and battalions will be led by a cadre provided by the U.S. Army. We could incentivize the cadre with on-the-spot promotions to help with the orderly in-processing and subsequent training of the migrants.
In essence, the Army would implement a basic training course supplemented with English lessons during the training day. Medical exams and national security interviews would also be administered and those not qualified would be immediately deported.
All basic training is “Light Infantry” training and those that show an aptitude for serving in other branches of the military would eventually be allowed to go on to more advanced training as their English language skills improved. If you can make it through the Darian Gap, you are fit for military service.
Do not agree to this training and your next bus ride is back across the border with a drop off in Mexico. Cause trouble in the military and the same ride will be made available. Serve a 3-year tour of duty … serve honorably … and you may be granted a citizenship when you are done.
I have no doubt that there are some who will say --- dumb idea … it will never work. OK … then I challenge you to make a better proposal … one that “kills two birds with a single stone” … i.e., that addresses the overwhelming masses of able-bodied young men at our border as well as declining recruitments. In fact, there can be little doubt that … when the word gets out that you are going to be conscripted into the Army if you cross illegally … the flow of illegals will slow to a trickle … if it does not stop completely even without a fence.
It might appear to be a bit radical and I am sure there would be some legal roadblocks along the way; but it is worthy of consideration …. since no other solutions are forthcoming.
